Like its predecessor Peanut Tuna EP, Pet a Rat EP presents a sequence of punk rock partial palindromes, composed using a constrained backmasking technique: The first half of each composition was written ‘freely’. The lead guitar part of the first half was then reversed by backmasking. The resulting backmasked audio then served as the lead guitar part of the composition’s second half, and thus as a constraint around which the composition was completed.
Tracks 1 to 3 use electric guitar, bass guitar, and drum vst plug-ins. Track 4 uses acoustic guitar, ukulele, and percussion (bongos, splash drum, miniature steel drum). All tracks composed and performed by Anthony Etherin. Cover art by Anthony Etherin, incorporating a still from the film Nosferatu (FW Murnau, 1922).
